HOSPITALITY Hospitality at the Institute takes three distinct forms: Individual, Group Retreat, and Youth Hostel/B&B. Individual Retreat Individuals are welcome to the Institute for personal retreats. We often have pastors, students, and people from all walks of life that desire to have a time of personal retreat and reflection for a weekend or a week (or longer). We provide a clean, warm private area where one can plan their own schedule, be alone if they want, participate in the life of the community if they want, use the library, take walks in the country or pet the farm animals. We recently received a check from a family that had a relaxing time in Tehuacana. On the "for" line on the check, they wrote: "Peace of Mind." Reservations needed; call or email for rates. In the Barracks we have a suite with a full size bed and a sitting room attached with a small refrigerator, toaster and microwave. Down the hall there is a home-like bathroom with tub/shower; Also on the hall is a common bathroom with 3 showers, lavatories, toilets, etc. There is also another suite with 2 bunk beds in the bedroom plus a sitting room with a private bath off of it. Testimony: I wanted to let you know what an enjoyable, restful and refreshing week my friend Jane and I had at Trinity Institute. My friends and family here in Canada thought I was a little out of my mind when I told them I was going to stay at a historic old college tucked away in a small village in Texas -- especially since I'd heard about it on the Internet. But as I said to BJ, I had a good feeling about the place -- and it turned out my instincts were right. Chuck and BJ (our caretakers) are delightful people, inspiring in their faithfulness and generosity of spirit. Trinity Institute is remarkable -- Chuck gave us the tour of Texas Hall. What a magnificent old place it must have been in its heyday -- it deserves restoration. I loved awakening each day to the songs of birds; the wildflowers were incredible; the cactus curious; the accommodations clean and comfortable. May God direct your hopes and dreams for Trinity Institute. I can understand why you are so committed to it. People of vision are inspiring. So thank you, for the effort you are making with that place, and for making it available at such a small cost to curious Canadians like myself, and to so many others. I hope I can return when you are ready to rededicate Texas Hall in all its former splendor! Blessings, Lynda Group Retreat University student groups, church groups and families use the Institute for group retreats and family reunions. We have Louisiana Hall, a historic (1906) fully restored (central heat/AC) dormitory that sleeps 70 people on bunk beds. It has a fully commercial kitchen and a beautiful warm dining room. Meeting space is available in Texas Hall and there is a gym and outdoor volleyball court available. Prices:
Groups normally take care of their own meals in the fully furnished kitchen/dining room, but we can provide catering service upon request. The facilities are reserved quickly in the fall and spring semesters. Youth Hostel/B&B We welcome traveling students in the USA and internationally to visit the Institute. We provide Youth Hostel services in the Barracks (see descriptions above). Students should have an International Student ID card. The prices are $15 a night. Reservations are recommended if you want to be sure to get a room because space is limited. Call 254-395-4444 or email jparker@glade.net for reservation information. Guests need to provide their own linens or can rent linens from the Hostel for $2.00. Guests must take care of their own meals: a microwave and refrigerator are available. Local attractions include Fort
Parker (a historic restored fort from the 1830's), Fort
Parker State Park, Lake
Mexia, and the rural sights of beautiful central Texas. Tehuacana
is a quaint rural village of about 350 people with a historic cemetery,
a grocery store, café, and post office in easy walking distance. Guests
need to have calling cards to make long distance calls from the local
grocery store. In addition, nearby Wortham, TX plays host to the "Blind"
Lemon Jefferson Blues Festival, held annually. Copyright © 2005 The Trinity Institute |
